How to Paint Your Amurosaurus Miniature: A Beginner-Friendly Guide

Painted Amurosaurus Miniature

Difficulty: Beginner | Estimated time: 2–3 hours

1. Intro Section

Painting the Amurosaurus miniature is a rewarding project for any hobbyist — its textured hide and elegant crest make it both approachable and visually striking. This model's natural curves are perfect for practicing dry brushing and highlighting techniques that bring prehistoric realism to life.

This miniature is available now in my Disain Studio store, ready to paint, and bring to life on your gaming table.

Before You Begin: Preparing Your 3D Printed Resin Model

My 3D printed resin models are fully cleaned and have the supports removed so require little prep before priming. I try to restrict supports to the less obvious areas but unfortunately they are unavoidable, lightly sand any support bumps with fine-grit sandpaper (400–800 grit), removing any small bumps will enhance the final painted miniature.

2. Required Equipment List

  • Brush set: Size 0 detail, size 2 base, and dry brush

  • Primer: Grey or white spray primer

  • Palette: Wet palette preferred

  • Varnish: Vallejo Satin Varnish

  • Other essentials: Water pot, paper towel, hobby knife, and good lighting

4. Step‑by‑Step Painting Guide

  1. Priming – Apply an even coat of grey primer. Let it dry completely before painting.

  2. Basecoating – Use Brown Sand for the body and Green Grey for the underside. Thin your paints slightly for smooth coverage.

  3. Dry Brushing – With Buff and Light Green, lightly drag your brush across raised textures to reveal the skin detail.

  4. Highlighting – Add Sky Blue to the crest edges and Ice Yellow to the eyes for vivid contrast.

  5. Layering – Blend Buff into Brown Sand on the flanks for a natural gradient.

  6. Final Touches – Paint claws with Dark Grey, then highlight with Stone Grey. Seal with Satin Varnish for protection and subtle sheen.
